What are Media Minutes?
Media Minutes are the total length of all video content on your page. So if you have a 3 minute reel, a 2 minute clip and a 1 minute clip, you are using 6 Media Minutes. Your plan determines your Media Minutes - Visionary Plan members have up to 15 Media Minutes, and Visionary Plus Plan members have up to 30 Media Minutes. If you need more than that 30 Media Minutes, please contact us.

What are video clips?
There are two kinds of video you can upload to your Show Me The Reel account:

1) Your Reel - you only get one of these (per account), and this will be the first video that viewers see when they come to your page. Typically this is a medley of some of your work, often 1-5 minutes in length. It could also be the video that best represents you as an artist.

2) Clips - these are short video segments that you can attach to your resume. So, for example, if one of your resume entries is a short film you produced that recently premiered, you can add a video clip of the short to the resume entry. It will display as a small film icon to the right of the resume entry, and clicking the icon will open a video window that displays the short. You can add as many clips as you have resume entries, as long as you don't go over your total Media Minutes.

How do I upload a reel video?
At the bottom of the profile setup page, below the Credits section, you will see a section named 'Upload Reel'. Click on the 'Browse' button and it will open a window where you can select any file on your computer's hard drive. Select the file you want to upload by clicking on it, then hit "Open" in the bottom right area of the window. Then hit the 'Upload' button and the uploading process will begin. You should now see the spinning uploading circle - this tells you that uploading is taking place.

Uploading usually takes 1-5 mins per megabyte, and it takes a minute or two to convert once its been uploaded. So if you have a very large file, give it some time and go make a Starbucks run. Once it has been successfully uploaded, you will see the video window displaying your video. Hit the play button in the bottom left to check it out. If you change your mind, check the 'delete reel video from profile' box and hit the 'Save Profile' button at the bottom to delete the video from Showmethereel. If you want to change to a different reel video, click the 'Browse' button again (now it says "Change your reel to a new video") and run through the same process - it will remove the reel video you have just uploaded and replace it with the new one.

How do I upload video clips to my resume?
There are two possibilities here:

1) You want to add a new credit entry and include a video clip.
2) You want to add a video clip to a credit entry that already exists.

We'll cover both:

1) You want to add a new credit entry and include a video clip:

  • First, click 'My Profile' in the top right hand section of the screen (next to 'My Account').

  • Then, scroll to the bottom of your profile and click 'Edit Profile'. Your profile is now in edit mode.

  • At the bottom of the credit section, click the 'Add new credit' link. You'll see a window pop up in the middle of the credit section.

  • First, select the category (ie, Film, Television, etc.), then add the Title, your Credit (ie, Producer, Writer, Director, Assistant to the Assistant Director's Assistant, etc.), the Distributor or Production Company (now's your chance to make up a snappy name if this is something you made at home on your macbook), and the year.

  • Then, click the 'Browse' button next to uploaded video, and it will open a window where you can select any file on your computer's hard drive. Select the file you want to upload by clicking on it, then hit "Open" in the bottom right area of the window.

  • Once you are done with the credit entry, hit the 'Save Button' and it will upload the video and add the credit entry to your credits.

  • If you want to add another new credit right away, hit 'Save and Add Another.'

  • You'll see that the credit entry has a blue film icon to the right of the edit and delete icons - just click this icon to view the video.

    2) You want to add a video clip to a credit entry that already exists:

  • To the right of each credit, you'll see two icons - a marker and a red X. The marker is the edit icon - just click on the icon and it will open a pop up in the middle of the credit section.

  • The information for your credit entry is already there - Click the 'Browse' button next to uploaded video, and it will open a window where you can select any file on your computer's hard drive.

  • Select the file you want to upload by clicking on it, then hit "Open" in the bottom right area of the window.

  • Hit the 'Save' Button and it will upload the video and add the credit entry to your credits.

  • If you want to add another new credit right away, hit 'Save and Add Another.' You'll see that the credit entry has a blue film icon to the right of the edit and delete icons - just click this icon to view the video.

I'm having trouble uploading a video
If you are having trouble uploading a video, first make sure that you are within the number of media minutes allowed for your plan; 2min for the Free Intro plan, 15min for Visionary, and 30min for Visionary Plus. Second, make sure the file name of the video (ie, myreel.mov) is less than 60 characters, and that the filename ends with one of the following standard video format suffixes: .mov, .mpeg, .mp4, .avi, .wmv. If you continue to have problems, email support and we'll be happy to assist you.

How is my credit card info safe?
Showmethereel uses Authorize.net, a leading provider of payment gateway services, to handle all of our credit card transactions. All data sent is encrypted and protected with industry-standard security procedures. We do not see or store your credit card information - all credit card information is handled exclusively by Authorize.net.

How do I edit or delete credit entries?
Use the marker and red X icons to the right of each credit entry - the marker is to edit, the X is delete. Don't worry, you'll have a chance to cancel if you hit delete by accident. If you want to edit, click the marker, make the changes you want to the record and then hit 'Save', 'Save and Add Another', or 'Cancel' if you want to cancel your changes. If you want to delete the video you've uploaded for the credit entry, click the red X next to the name of the video and hit 'OK' when it asks you if you really want to delete that video.

Help! My videos are on DVD and I don't know how to convert them

We are not responsible for DVDs that are lost in the process of being delivered to us. Make sure you are NOT sending us the only copy in existence of the DVD you need uploaded. If you need the DVD returned, please include a self-addressed envelope (preferably padded) with correct postage on the envelope and we will mail it back to you once it has been uploaded. What is RSS and how can it help me?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication - its a way to get news delivered to you as soon as soon as new items are created. At Showmethereel, RSS can send you updates anytime a new talent account is created that meets criteria you set. So for example, if you are always looking for WGA comedy writers in New York, you can have showmethereel alert you every time a new WGA comedy scribe in New York joins. You can choose as many choices as you want within Categories, Genres, and Guilds to build your own custom feed. You can also set showmethereel to alert you everytime one of your favorite profiles is updated (see What Are My Favorites? below).

How does the RSS Generator Work?
The RSS Generator is our interface for letting you create your own custom RSS feeds! Or, in non-tech-geek speek - its how you tell showmethereel what alerts you want to receive.

Instructions for using the RSS Generator can be found here.

    What are My Favorites?
My Favorites are tags you can add to any profile you like. So for example, you could be looking for a director for a new project and do an advanced search (see How does Advanced Search work? below) to find the best candidates. Using My Favorites you can add personal tags to add your notes to each profile you look at. No one else can see them except you - unless you want to share, in which case we make it easy to send the links along with your comments to a colleague or friend.

Instructions for using My Favorites can be found here.

    How does Advanced Search work?
Advanced Search is our special search for Industry Professional members. In addition to searching for names, you can search for members within specific Categories, Genres, and Guilds, or any combination of those, and you can add key terms. You can also save your favorite searches for later use.

Instructions for using Advanced Search can be found here.

How long will my job posting stay on your site?
Job postings will stay up for at least 30 days. We say "at least" because we reserve the right to remove postings that are more than 30 days old for the purposes of keeping the site clean, but we may leave postings up for longer than 30 days. You can also remove a posting yourself if you want.
